What is MySTI?
MySTI (Program Penggunaan Barangan dan Perkhidmatan Hasil R&D Tempatan) is a national certification initiative by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). The program recognizes products developed in Malaysia for their quality, innovation, and compliance with high-level industry standards. More details on the MySTI launch by MOSTI can be found here. The certification not only aligns with national technology initiatives but also reflects a commitment to innovation, reliability, and adherence to industry best practices.

Step-by-Step Guide to Obtaining MySTI
Leveraging our successful track record in obtaining six MySTI certifications (with additional applications pending), we are pleased to offer our valuable insights. This article functions as a comprehensive, step-by-step guide detailing the MySTI application procedure, directly addressing the queries frequently raised by our business partners: What constitutes the application steps? What are the prerequisite requirements and essential documentation? And what is the anticipated duration of the process?
The first step was to sign up for an applicant account on the MySTI portal at https://www.mysti.gov.my/. We registered two designated applicants; our CEO and the person in charge of the application to ensure the process was properly coordinated.
Next, we submitted detailed information about our products. The MySTI application process requires submitting a set of mandatory documents and providing key business information. Having all the necessary paperwork and details ready is essential for a smooth and successful application. Below is the complete list of mandatory items to be submitted:
Required documents to submit:
- Invention Disclosure Form or Intellectual Property Document
- Export Declaration Form – K2 Form (Borang Kastam 2)
- Pitch Deck
- Invoice or Purchase Order
- Product catalogue
- Product photos of multiple angles
Required information to provide in the application:
- Unique Selling Proposition (USP)
- Competitive Analysis
- Business Traction
The application process itself is structured in stages and typically takes around 30 working days once a complete submission is received. After a pre-screening process, the MySTI team contacts applicants via email if additional documents or clarifications are needed. Finally, once the committee approves the submission, the result is sent via email along with the official certification for each registered product and the original MySTI logo.
Certification Process and Timeline
Once the application is submitted, each registered product will receive an official MySTI certification along with the original MySTI logo. Based on our experience, the typical process is as follows:
- Filling the form: 2 weeks
- Submission & system notification: Day 1 (right after submission)
- Processing: 30 days
If there are no issues, the certification is granted within the timeline. Applicants will receive an email notification and can also download the certificate from the system (Refer Figure 2). In case, if there are issues, authorities may request additional documents or clarifications. From our experience with six applications, the first two took longer due to incomplete submissions and the need for clarifications. The subsequent four applications were smooth and generally completed within 30 days.

Applicants are advised to verify the latest requirements before submitting their applications.

Why DF Applies for MySTI and How Our Products Can Help Government-Linked Companies (GLCs)?
For a robotics pioneer like DF Automation in Malaysia, this certification acts as a powerful business catalyst.
- Priority in Government Procurement: This is the most significant commercial benefit. Products with the MySTI logo are given priority access in government procurement and tenders (such as under the Ministry of Finance’s PK 1.4 guidelines). This gives DF Automation a massive competitive advantage when bidding for contracts with ministries, government agencies, and GLCs over non-certified or foreign competitors.
- Validation of Authentic Local R&D: The robotics market is flooded with imported, white-labeled hardware. The MySTI logo acts as official, government-backed proof that DF Automation’s products like the Zalpha AMR and Zamma Automated Forklifts are the result of genuine research, development, and engineering conducted right here in Malaysia.
- Enhanced Credibility and Trust: Securing this certification builds immense confidence among stakeholders, investors, and enterprise clients. It signals that DF Automation meets stringent national standards for innovation and quality, positioning the company not just as an assembler, but as a core creator of deep technology.
- Global Expansion Endorsement: When expanding internationally, having a national-level endorsement serves as a strong marker of reliability, proving to overseas clients that your technology is trusted by your own government.
GLCs play a critical role in driving Malaysia’s economy and modernizing its infrastructure. By integrating DF Automation’s AMRs and AGVs, these organizations can upgrade their operations while fulfilling broader national agendas.
- Driving Operational Efficiency and Industry 4.0: GLCs operating in sectors like logistics, manufacturing, energy, and healthcare need to optimize their supply chains. DF Automation’s robots streamline material handling, reduce manual labor bottlenecks, minimize human error, and enable 24/7 operations. This directly reduces OPEX and accelerates the transition towards Industry 4.0.
- Supporting National Mandates and KPIs: GLCs often have mandates to support the local tech ecosystem and reduce reliance on foreign technology. By procuring MySTI-certified robots from DF Automation, GLCs directly fulfill these local procurement KPIs, investing government-linked funds back into Malaysian talent and strengthening national self-reliance.
- Rapid, Localized Maintenance and Support: Downtime is incredibly costly for large-scale GLC operations. Because DF Automation is headquartered in Skudai, Johor, you can offer immediate, on-the-ground technical support, maintenance, and fleet management (via DFleet). This eliminates the long wait times, supply chain delays, and expensive service fees associated with overseas vendors.
- High Customizability for Complex Environments: GLCs often have unique, highly regulated, or secure operational environments (e.g., energy plants, national defense facilities, public hospitals). Unlike rigid, off-the-shelf foreign robots, DF Automation can tailor both the hardware (like Zalpha standard, extended, or lowbed chassis) and the software ( NavWiz and DFleet) to meet the specific security and operational needs of these entities.
