While the first night was a masterclass in arena-rock precision, it was the second night that became etched in rock lore when Freddie Mercury famously invited a troupe of nude female cyclists to ride across the stage during "Bicycle Race," a stunt that perfectly embodied the band's penchant for provocative spectacle. Despite the era's critics—most notably Rolling Stone—labeling their performance style as overblown, the New York crowd was electric, witnessing a setlist that balanced the raw power of the "fast" version of "We Will Rock You" with the communal intimacy of "Love of My Life."
