img QUEEN British Rock Band Concert at Madison Square Garden 1978 NYC Advertisement Offered is an original, collectible newspaper (NOT a copy/reproduction): THE VILLAGE VOICE, New York, Oct. 16, 1978* "Queen" North America concert tour * "Jazz" album tour - Freddie Mercury* Concerts at Madison Square Garden advertisement* MISSING THE FRONT & BACK PAGESPage 97 has a nice full page advertisement for "QUEEN" concerts at Madison Square Garden.background: Queen’s two-night residency at Madison Square Garden on November 16 and 17, 1978, stands as a quintessential moment of rock decadence, capturing the band at the height of their Jazz Tour's theatrical excess. While the first night was a masterclass in arena-rock precision, it was the second night that became etched in rock lore when Freddie Mercury famously invited a troupe of nude female cyclists to ride across the stage during "Bicycle Race," a stunt that perfectly embodied the band's penchant for provocative spectacle. Despite the era's critics—most notably Rolling Stone—labeling their performance style as overblown, the New York crowd was electric, witnessing a setlist that balanced the raw power of the "fast" version of "We Will Rock You" with the communal intimacy of "Love of My Life." Freddie was in peak form, navigating the massive "pizza oven" lighting rig with his signature bravado and even paying homage to local pride by dedicating "We Are The Champions" to the recently victorious 1978 World Series champion New York Yankees.I suspect this to be an extremely rare item because there was really no reason to save it at the time. The Village Voice was an American counterculture newspaper known for being the country's first alternative newsweekly. It introduced free-form, high-spirited, and passionate journalism into the public discourse - a tradition it maintained throughout its 60+ year history. It is quite common to find great political cartoons, satirical cartoons and articles, thought-provoking editorials, and ads and reviews for both concerts and theater productions - both on and off Broadway. Many iconic writers and musicians credit their appearance in The Village Voice for at least a portion of their success. One hundred and eighty pages, missing the front and back leafs (pages 1-2 & 183-184), the Queen ad is fine, otherwise nice. Provenance note: This issue comes from The Village Voice's own archives, part of their in-house collection used to create their digital archive. Rare as such.Alert: Many issues of The Village Voice contain articles and/or photos which some consider offensive, and are certainly inappropriate for children. Please purchase with discretion. Please Note: All of our offerings are 100% authentic! We do not offer reprints or reproductions of any kind. They are guaranteed to be original! Links to Archival Storage Options & Certificates of Authenticity Are Below! Historical reports may be beautiful or ugly, but they are always informative. While we rejoice in the beautiful (heroic, discovery, amazing feats, etc.), we at History's Newsstand also offer "the ugly" for we are determined to learn from the wrongs of the past - understanding, to do so, we must be willing to look these wrongs directly in the face and shout "NO MORE!". It is for this reason many Black Americans collect historic slave ads, Jews collect reports regarding the Holocaust, women collect coverage of the Women's Suffrage Movement, etc.. If you find any to be offensive, we agree! Hopefully this is an indication we are moving in the right direction. Domestic Shipping Policy... For this specific item, A U.S. winner pays $10.00 S&H.
